Who Am I?
Who Am I? What's my purpose? Why am I here? Have you ever asked yourself these questions? I think most of us have. For the duration of our human experience, we are striving to find out who we are and what we are supposed to do with our lives. Wouldn't it be great if there was someone who could help answer those questions? Guess what - there is! From the very beginning, God has been calling you out and waiting for you to find out who you are!
FROM THE BEGINNING
Genesis 1:26-31 26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. DOMINION: authority, rulership, or stewardship.
Each and every one of us is alive today, at this exact moment in time, because God chose it. We were created with purpose, and we are special in His sight, because we are created in His image. But much more than that, we were created to have dominion.
Having dominion means to have control and ownership of something. For example, when God first created mankind, they were told to "take dominion" over the earth. This means that we were to act as God's stewards. Taking responsibility, guarding and directing what happens on the earth. The Hebrew word "radah" is translated to mean "dominion, rule, reign, have rule over, and prevail against. We are also called for a relationship with God! God wants and desires intimacy with each and every one of us. When we draw closer to Him, we have a better understanding of who we are.
SEPARATED BY SIN
Before the fall of man, it was made clear that God visited with with Adam and Eve regularly. That is, until one life-altering day. After choosing to be disobedient and eating the forbidden fruit, they hid from God because of fear. When sin entered the world, it separated mankind from the Father.
Genesis 3:8-9 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” This moment, marked the beginning of the corruption of all mankind. Adam and Eve were born of incorruptible seed, but in their disobedience, they corrupted it for everyone. This is why we need a savior to restore what was lost. To find out who we truly are, we need Jesus!
The Goodness Of God
John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The love of God is beyond comprehension! Jesus was sent to restore us to our rightful place and bring us back to the intimate fellowship with our creator.
1 Peter 1:23 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
By believing in Jesus we are born again of incorruptible seed. We are no longer lost, trying to find our place in the world. We are given a purpose and a direct line to the father for guidance!
WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?
Since we are made in Gods image and we are His children, we have been given much power. It's crucial that you are very careful with your words, because creative power is in them, just like God. We must use our authority and our words for good. Instead of speaking negativity over something, speak blessings. Speak the Word of God over your situations and watch it turn around. We are meant to live life and live it more abundantly. Our purpose is to thrive! Follow these three steps to truly fulfill your purpose and be who you were created to be!
1. Be like Jesus
We are made in the image of God, we should strive to be more like him. God is love. The only commandment Jesus left us is to love one another. To truly be more like Christ, we must choose to spend more time spreading love instead of anger or hatred.
2. Take dominion
As children of God, we should be good stewards of all that He has given us. We must take care of what we have in the present before we can gain more. For example, you can complain about your old run down car, or you can take care of it and praise God for the transportation, until He provides you with the means to buy a new one.
3. Have fellowship with God
The most precious relationship of all is your relationship with the father. Read your bible, spend time in prayer and worship. LISTEN! God is always speaking, we need only listen to Him!
PRAYER Father, in your great wisdom and love you created me in your image. I renounce the sinful nature that I was born with, that messed up my DNA. By the blood of Jesus, I receive that I am restored and incorruptible, that I am meant to live in the fullness and power, with dominion and the ability to walk and have fellowship with you daily. Glory to God!
Thank You Jesus! Amen
